Getting started

BuzzerReady is set up and managed by an adult — a parent or guardian at home, or the coach or leader who runs a church program. This page walks through both, step by step, exactly as the app does it today. A quizzer never creates their own account.

For families

Set up your quizzer at home.

Five steps

  1. Choose your pass and pay

On the Pricing section of the homepage, pick the household season pass and how many quizzers it is for, then pay on the checkout page. The pass runs through the end of the season and does not renew on its own.

  2. Finish your account

The screen after payment asks for one thing at a time: the email you paid with (already filled in), a password, your birth month and year — accounts are for adults — and your acceptance of the Terms and the Privacy Policy. One button, and you are in.

  3. Add your quizzer

From your Account screen, tap Add a quizzer profile. Before anything is saved we show you exactly what we collect about a child and ask for your consent. Then give the quizzer a first name or nickname, pick their division — Cadet, Beginner, Junior or Senior — and tap Create the profile. Each profile takes one seat on your pass.

  4. Start practicing

With one quizzer, the app opens at their level. With more than one, it asks Who's practicing? so each quizzer works at their own division. On another phone or tablet, sign in with your email and password and pick the quizzer's name; you can switch quizzers any time from Settings.

  5. Add another quizzer later

Tap Add a quizzer profile again. Your Account screen shows how many seats are in use. When every seat on your pass is taken, the app says so and shows you how to add the next one.

For coaches and programs

Fill the seats on your program.

A Program pass buys quizzer seats and coach seats for your program. You build the teams your program needs, invite your coaches, and invite families; each family sets up its own quizzer, and the quizzer's seat comes from the program. You never enter anything about a child — only a parent or guardian can create a quizzer's profile, and it stays with their family.

Ten steps

  1. Choose the Program pass and pay

On the Pricing section, pick the Program season pass and the number of seats — one per quizzer. A Coach seat is a separate adult seat that lets a coach into the app to run and lead practice. A coach's own practice is not scored or saved the way a quizzer's is — nothing is kept — and coach seats are counted apart from your quizzer seats. On the plans screen you enter how many quizzers and how many coach seats you need; pay on the checkout page.

  2. Finish your account

The screen after payment asks for the email you paid with, a password, your birth month and year, and your acceptance of the Terms and the Privacy Policy. This is the program's account — the administrator's sign-in. Each coach you invite signs in with an account of their own (step 5); nobody shares a password.

  3. Open Your program

On your Account screen, under Your program, tap Program console. Its Overview shows how many quizzer seats are in use and how many are waiting, the invitations out, your teams and your coaches — every number read from our records — with tabs for Teams, Coaches, Invitations and Seats.

  4. Create the teams your program needs

On the Teams tab, tap New team and name it. The teams are yours to shape: create as many as you want, one for each division you field — Cadet, Beginner, Junior or Senior — or several in the same division, or a single team for everyone. A team's name is how you tell them apart (parents see it on their invitation, and you can rename a team later); each quizzer's own division is set on their profile by their parent. A team that has no quizzer, no invitation out and no coach assigned can be archived, and its history is kept.

  5. Invite a coach

On the Coaches tab, tap Invite a coach, enter the coach's email address and, if you like, the team they will coach. We email the invitation. The coach accepts on an account of their own — a new one, or the one they already use as a parent — and their coach seat comes from your program unless they already hold a pass of their own. A coach is linked to one program at a time. The invitation waits under Invitations waiting until they accept, and you can withdraw it there.

  6. Assign each coach to a team

Open a team on the Teams tab. Under Coaches on this team, choose a linked coach and tap Assign coach — or Assign myself to coach a team as the administrator. A coach can hold more than one team, and a team can have more than one coach. A coach sees only the teams they are assigned to; as the administrator you see every team. Unassign takes a coach off a team, and Remove on the Coaches tab ends their place on the program and returns the coach seat — their own account is untouched.

  7. Invite families to fill the quizzer seats

While seats are waiting, a team's tab shows Fill your seats. Tap Invite a family, enter the parent or guardian's email address, and send; the invitation names that team. We email the invitation; nothing about the quizzer is collected from you. A coach can invite families into the team they are assigned to. Every invitation appears under Invitations until the parent answers, and you can withdraw it there. An invitation out holds a seat until it is answered or withdrawn.

  8. The family sets up the quizzer

The parent opens the link in the email. Before anything is saved we show them what we collect about a child and ask for their consent. They give the quizzer a first name or nickname, choose the division, and create the profile. Then they decide, separately, whether to link the profile to your team — the screen says in plain words what the team's coaches and the program's administrator will see if they do, and they can turn it off at any time. When they link, the seat comes from your program: the family needs no pass of its own for that quizzer. One seat covers one quizzer; a brother or sister on the same family account needs the family's own pass.

  9. Coaches run their own team's roster

Once a parent has linked a quizzer and turned coach visibility on, the quizzer appears on the team's roster with their practice record — to that team's coaches, and to you. From the console a coach can suggest what to practice — one of eight fixed activities — and the suggestion appears for the quizzer and for their parent. Remove from team takes a quizzer off the roster and returns the seat to your program; the family's profile and record stay with the family, and a family can leave a team from their own account in the same way. To move a quizzer to another of your teams, offer the move from the roster; it takes effect only when the parent confirms it. A coach can also open the app and run practice themselves — nothing they do is scored or saved.

  10. Quizzers practice on their family's sign-in

A quizzer practices signed in on their own family's account, on any phone, tablet or laptop, and picks their name when the app asks who is practicing. Need more seats than your pass holds? Use Request more seats on the Seats tab — quizzer seats or coach seats — and we answer within one business day. You can also write to outreach@buzzerready.com.
